Dr. Nikhil Rao is an eminent Consultant Nephrologist & Kidney Transplant Specialist. With an exceptional academic background combined with strong clinical acumen, he has earned a trusted name in the field of Nephrology and Transplant medicine.
His areas of special interest include Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), dialysis, glomerular diseases, diabetic kidney disease, resistant hypertension and kidney transplant care.
Having completed his M.B.B.S. degree from the premier medical institute, Seth G.S. Medical College and K.E.M Hospital, Mumbai, he went on to complete his M.D. in General Medicine from the same institute, where he was awarded the Gold Medal for outstanding academic excellence. Subsequently he completed his D.M. in Nephrology again from Seth G.S. Medical college and K.E.M. Hospital, Mumbai, in the course of which he was selected as an awardee for The Young Scholar Award (TYSA) in Nephrology. Thereon serving as Assistant Professor in the Department of Nephrology at K.E.M. Hospital, he has actively contributed to patient care, academic training, and mentoring postgraduate residents.
Dr Nikhil Rao is also the recipient of the Prestigious Apex Kidney Care Scholarship for the year 2022-2023 and Observership at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, USA.
He was awarded the prestigious Glomcon Fellowship (2024–2025), an internationally recognized fellowship focused on advanced nephrology education and glomerular diseases.
He was an awardee at the international Annual Dialysis conference, Kansas, Missouri, USA in the year 2026.
He is also actively involved in clinical research and has contributed to multiple national and international nephrology publications.
